Cowhorn Mountain

October 5, 1980

Infrequently visited Cowhorn Mountain (7,664 ft.) was our destination this fine sunny October morning, a long 190-mile round trip by car, but well worth the effort. Four easy miles on the PCNST north from near Windigo Pass, a mad little scree scramble, and all members of the party squatted atop ol’ Cowhorn for lunch and some superb views of nearby Mount Thielsen and Sawtooth Mountain, Crescent Lake at our feet, and the usual peaks to the north. A strong wind did not deter some people from “backing up” precariously for peak-to groups photos! A good group, and this is definitely a to-be-repeated-next-year trip . . .

“Cowhorners” were Peter Cecil, Wilbur Groner, Bob Foster, Lee Hatch, Joyce Heaton, Karen Houglum, Don Ladigin, Dorothy Leland, Joe Lowry, John Mowat, Elaine Qualls, Velma Shirk, and leader John Cecil.
