Mt. Jefferson Wilderness

September 28, 1980

We had planned to take the Crest Trail north from Santiam Pass to the west side of Three Fingered Jack, and then to the lakes on the west of the ridge. However, the closer we got to the mountain, the worse the weather became, so we decided to go down the East side to Summit, Martin and Booth Lakes in hopes of finding better weather. We never found Summit Lake, but we did find better weather and had lunch in the sun at Martin Lake.

After lunch we passed Booth Lake and arrived at Square Lake in early afternoon so took the 4 mile side trip to Long and Round Lakes.

We got to the cars at 5 p.m. and home at 7:30. This trip was limited to 10 hikers to comply with Forest Service request to limit all wilderness trips to 14 or less. As there were three no-shows, our group was Ellen Gradison, Yvonne Hiatt, Glenn Haughan, Betty Legris, Lee Hatch (leader), John Cecil and Charlie Wright.
