Rosary Lakes

September 21, 1980

Our group of 15 left Eugene at 8 a.m. under partly sunny skies. Upon arriving at the trailhead, the weather looked very threatening and was a bit on the cool side. However, everyone was introduced and started up the trail at 9:40 a.m. The lead group reached Rosary Lake at 10:35 and some of us slower types made it at 10:40. Since the day was still quite early and the weather seemed to be warming up a bit, we decided to go on to the other two lakes.

The whole group made it to N. Rosary Lake. Since the time was now only about 11, a few of us decided to hike on up the trail a bit farther. The leader was interested in seeing if the Maiden Lake trail, which showed on the map, was where it should be. After about ½ mile we came across that trail. From there we continued on to the top of the divide and the boundary of the Willamette National Forest. The divide at this point is 6250 feet. From here we returned to Middle Rosary Lake to eat our lunch. The skies began to clear and the sun came out to make a very pleasant lunch break.

Some of the group returned to the cars early due to the cool air. After a sunny lunch the second group headed back to the cars at 1:20. We arrived back at the cars at 2:15 and headed back to town at 2:30. All of us were back in town by 4:15. This was a very nice trip, enjoyed by everyone. The happy hikers were Bob Foster, Al Gamache (leader), Susie Heddinger, Karen Houglum, Elizabeth McMullin, Dorothy Medill, Bill Musson, Carol Musson, Mavis Prescott, Gerta Ross, Karen Seidel, Nancy Snyder, Connie Speake, Betty Taylor, Merle Traudt.
