Ramona Falls and Eagle Creek

September 6-7, 1980

There was an immediate problem in that the sign-up sheet had disappeared from the “Y” board before 4:30 p.m. Friday, so the leader had no idea as to how many people were signed up, transportation available, etc. However, only two other people showed up, so the three of us left at 7:10 in Merle’s comfortable van. We were joined at the Ramona Falls parking lot at 10:30 by two of Bonnie’s Portland friends who took advantage of the Obsidian hike to visit. Weather was beautiful, the scenery superb. Many people on the Ramona Falls trail included members of the Portland “West Hills Striders,” who had a run around the mountain that day and had a check-in point-refreshment stop at Ramona Falls.

On Merle’s suggestion, after the hike we took the Lolo Pass Road over to Hood River, rather than Highway 35. We had a stop at Lolo Pass where we had a short huckleberry picking session.

We camped at Eagle Creek Campground for the night and thankfully did not get wet despite frequent showers. The van facilities provided us with easy breakfast preparations. The next day we had a rerun of the previous day’s beautiful weather and marvelous scenery as we hiked the Eagle Creek trail. We arrived in Eugene about 8 p.m. Sunday night after enjoying a great weekend. Too bad the trip was missed by so many people. Hikers included Gladys Grancorvitz, Bonnie Ledford (leader), and Merle Traudt.
