To comply with the new Forest Service guidelines to limit all trips and climbs in the wilderness areas to a maximum of 14 persons, or less, this trip limited to 8 hikers. As there was one no-show, we started with a nice sized group of 7. Our trip started at the Pamelia Lake trailhead at 9:15 and we were soon on the new PCNST. By noon we were at Shale Lake which was almost dry, so we went a few hundred feet to Coyote Lake for a swim and lunch.
After an hour rest, we were on the trail south with good views of the Hunts Cove area from high on the ridge. On past Cathedral Rocks, which separate the east from the west, and to the junction with the old PCNST.
Here we went cross country to the lake in Hunts Cove and out the old PCNST to Pamelia Lake and the cars at 5:30. On this easy 15 mile trip is one of our most scenic areas. We saw less than half a dozen hikers, and only 8 or 10 campers.
On this hike were members Betty Legris, John Cecil and Lee Hatch (leader), and non-members Ellen Gradison, Bob Albrecht, Shelly Amer and Carol Kompanik.
