Belnap Crater

August 16, 1980

(Scott Mt. via Kuitan Lake) — Due to fire in the Bohemia Creek area, Dave Predeek (who works for the Forest Service) had to cancel the trip. Parker Riddle of the trip committee just happened to meet Ruth and Wayne Lill at the “Y” and asked if they could take the trip. Even though they had never hiked this trail, they agreed to do so.

Upon meeting with the hikers Saturday morning, the new leaders had a change of heart. Especially since no one of the group had been over this trail. Wilbur Groner had hiked both ends, but not all the way through, and he had lost the trail on the Robinson Lake end.

The group decided to go to Belnap Crater instead of Mt. Scott and it was a good change of plan. Big Belnap was ascended via the north side and the group spent a beautiful lunch hour on top. We descended via the southeast slope and returned to visit Little Belnap. This was an ideal trip with lots of time to look and the weather was perfect. All Sunshine, but not too hot.

Seven members made the trip. They were, Wilbur Groner, Ruth and Wayne Lill (leaders), Rose Marie Moffitt, Don Payne, Mill Thomas and Merle Traudt.
