Taylor Burn from Skookum Creek Guard Station

May 17, 1980

This trip was certainly different than the scouting trip the week before (six to eight inches of new snow with overcast and often dripping skies). We left Skookum Creek Campground at 10:20 and arrived at the upper Erma Bell Lake in time for lunch at 11:45. We ate lunch in the meadow beside the lake with no wind, a cloudless sky and warm temperatures out of the shade. All of us watched the wood ducks on the lake and an osprey circling, looking for its lunch. They didn’t seem to mind our intrusion. Some of us even managed to take a short nap.

We left the lake and hiked up the trail toward Taylor Burn until 2:00. The trail signs and maps were confusing and the trail was lost in the snow drifts. All-in-all a very pleasant trip.

Hikers were: Dick Barrar, Elaine Barrar, Dick Bentsen, Mary Bentsen, Mary Bridgeman, Wilbur Groner, Richard Heinzkill, Vi Johnson, Ruth Lill, Wayne Lill (leader), Doug Long, Roger Nicholls, Eleanor Wilderson.
