Blue Mountain Recreation Area
May 3, 1980
May 3rd was an ideal day for a trip. Ten Obsidians and friends left the parking lot on schedule and enjoyed the short drive to Blue Mountain Recreation Area 8 miles east of Cottage Grove.
After a brief history of the place and a couple of loop trips on trails up the hill with flowers everywhere, we were ready for lunch. As often happens there, we had all three picnic areas to ourselves. We chose the North Mosby Creek site where some sat in the sand or on a log at the edge of the stream, while others used the tables.
The temperature was just right, the sun felt good, and the background music of the babbling creek, plus the calls and songs of birds gave us delight and a feeling of peace with ourselves and the world.
After lunch we hiked a few of the trails along the creek. By mid-after-noon we were on our way home, &8212; even though we hadn’t covered all the trails. The friendly group enjoying this short trip were Dottie Conlon, Barbara Durchanek, Irene Flynn (leader), Mike Hutchison, Lynn Juilfs, Elizabeth McMullin, Bonita Rickard, Judy Shepherd, Nancy Snyder and Bev Thomas.
