Oregon Coast

April 27, 1980

We arrived at Yachats at 9:30 a.m. to start the first of several short hikes scheduled for the day. We had hopes for a warm, sunny day, but had to settle for a windless, overcast sky with sunny skies only in later afternoon.

Our first short hike took us over the rocks and sand beach north of Yachats about 3 miles and return. After lunch and the departure for home for 2 of the group, the rest drove to Cape Perpetua and a hike up the Saint Perpetua Trail, down to Devil’s Churn across the highway and return to the car via the Forest Service Visitors Center. Our last short hike was down the Hobbit Trail to the beach just north of Devil’s Elbow State Park.

The last of the group returned home at 7:15 p.m. Starting the day were Maude Caldwell, Dorothy Hayes, Jane and Mike Hackett, Dick Hildreth, Doug Long and Lee Hatch, leader.
