Coburg Hills

March 16, 1980

The weather forecaster’s promise of 80% chance of rain gave us a delightful day for hiking, but previous heavy rains made the ground underfoot a little muddy in some sections. Starting on BLM road 17-2-8 and after a very rickety stream crossing, our nine miles took us to the top of McGowan Creek Road, past the Channel 9 TV tower, lunch on Old Baldy, an interesting look at and in the Coburg Caves, and finally to the car shuttle at the west end of McKenzie View Drive. “Mud wallowing” in the Coburgs were: Bob Fortnam, Wilbur Groner, K. C. Kraft, Betty Legris and John Cecil (leader).
