Hardesty Mt.

March 9, 1980

Eight Obsidians and two non-members began the hike on the South Willamette Trail just off highway 58. We joined Hardesty Trail a short distance above Goodman Creek parking area, a good warm-up before tackling the steep lower Hardesty Trail. We passed one logging sight and found signs posted by a “protect Hardesty” group urging people to write Congressman Weaver to save the trail.

At the Crale Creek Road crossing we were surprised to find two more Obsidians waiting for us. The top of Hardesty was made in very good time where we enjoyed a snowcapped view from Diamond Peak to Mt. Jefferson. After lunch, the Patterson Mt. Road trailhead, enjoying more good views along the way, while the rest of the group made an early return home.

Non-members were Ruth Romoser and first time visitor Richard Kerns. Obsidians were John Cecil, Wilbur Groner, Joanne Haines, Lee Hatch, Helene Johnston, Tom Johnston; Parker Riddle, Robin Steussy, Merle Traudt, and Betty Legris (leader).
