McDowell Creek Park

March 2, 1980

Forecast was rain, which turned out to be fog, which turned into sunshine. Turning off Highway 20 on the west side of Sweet Home, you follow the road which is marked McDowell Creek Park. The valley is lush and deserving of its name Pleasant Valley (or is it Peaceful Valley?). Sighting a herd of Elk brought us to a halt. Then shortly we reached our destination. If deep plunging waterfalls and crystal pools give you a thrill, then this is the place to go. About 2 miles of steps and trail and bridges take you up, around, down and along McDowell Creek. Noon lunch was enjoyed at a sunny picnic table. We returned via McDowell Park Sunnyside Road, crossing Foster Dam and taking a side jaunt to Shotgun Recreation area for another 2 mile hike.

On this leisurely trip were Mary Bridgeman, Genie Currier, Florence Dickinson, Margaret Hadaway, Elizabeth McMullin, Gerta Ross, Lois Schreiner and Paula Vehrs (leader).
