Fawn Lake

March 10, 1979

The designation “experienced only” kept the number of participants down to six. Still, it was tough going for some, the trail to Fawn Lake being crusty or even icy in spring. The weather was outstanding all day. We parked at trailhead, which has been moved to the parking lot, next to the rest rooms. We followed blue diamonds to the logging road near the old trailhead by the RR crossing, then turned North. After half a mile or so there is a fork: keep right, following blue diamonds. From then on there is only one trail, clearly marked. Arrived by 1:00 p.m., spent almost an hour lying in the sun by the lake. After we arrived back at the car, and while waiting for the last two members of the party to emerge from the woods, Explorers Ruth Williams and Shawn Reiersgaard picked up all the garbage strewn about with their ski poles. I was so impressed by these two kids I want to praise them in public (at the same time saying “shame, shame, shame!” to the guilty parties).

Participants on this all-Obsidian ski trip were Gladys Grancorvitz, Bonnie Ledford, Joe Lowry, Shawn Reiersgaard, Ruth Williams and leader Hank Plant.
