Upper Rosary LakeFebruary 17, 1979Due to unfavorable road access to Pioneer Gulch, the leader changed trip to Rosary Lakes. The party of nine left 19th and Patterson at 8:30 a.m., picked up Bea at Lowell Bridge, followed sanding truck from tunnel to Willamette Pass. Arrived at ski parking lot at 10:30 a.m. After using rest room facilities (all the comforts of home on this trip) we skied past the bunny slope to the Rosary Lakes trailhead and signed in. Arrived Lower Rosary Lake at noon for lunch. We enjoyed some sunshine, although it was a cloudy day. After lunch (fed lots of camp robber jays too) all but Dorothy and Joella followed Henrietta to Upper Rosary Lake. The return trip was just fantastic! With a foot of fresh snow from the previous day’s storm, it was ideal snow with good weather and an excellent party. Total snow depth was approximately to the blazes on the trees (this trail is now marked with blue diamond ski markers in winter. The leader can’t remember a more enjoyable ski trip in six years of skiing. Skiers were Tim Cook, Bea Fontana, Joella Hadland, Joe Lowry, Dorothy Hayes, Richard Heinzkill, Henrietta Richmond, Kevin Riddle and leader Wes Prouty. |
