Found and Hidden Lakes

September 8, 1979

The weather had been rather rainy during the previous few days, but looked good to the east as we left town at 8:00 a.m. There were some clouds to the west, however, and before we got to the takeoff point at Charnelton Lake, a light rain had developed. Even so, it was pleasant as we hiked to Found Lake on the Trail. We had planned to swim, but instead had lunch early at 11:30 under misty skies. Then came the cross country to Hidden Lake wherein we all got our feet wet. Some waited at Hidden Lake while the rest climbed Gerdine Butte. The view of Wickiup, Crane Prairie and a bit of Cultus Mountain was great, but westward there was only a great roll of cloud where Waldo Lake was supposed to be.

The sun did break through briefly while we visited at Hidden Lake, but then we got our feet wet again cross countrying back to the Pacific Crest trail. From there it was an easy hike back to the cars where we left for home about 3:30 p.m. There were several “first timers” and although the weather was dull, we enjoyed a pleasant outing. Hikers were: Chuck Foster, Wilbur Groner, Joanne Haines, Karen Houglum, Louise Lange, Bonnie Ledford, Nancy McArolle, Elizabeth McMullen, Parker Riddle, Alys Riley, Kim Scatterella, Lloyd Start, Merle Traudt, and Henriettn Richmond, the leader.
