Breitenbush to Timberline Lodge

August 11-18, 1979

The 60-mile trip, this year, started at Breitenbush Lake and ended at Timberline Lodge. Our central car shuttle point was Clackamas Lake guard station. The planned mileage for hiking was changed on some days, due to trail changes and one camp ground being closed for removal of hazard trees. Overnight camps were re-established at Jude Lake (good swimming at nearby Russ Lake), Lemiti Creek (rain all night), Warm Springs River, Timothy Lake (thunder storm and heavy rain), Crater Lake (thunder and heavy rain), and Lower Twin Lake.

Scenic highlights of the trip were the many lakes of the Olallie Lake Scenic area (first day), Little Crater Lake on Thursday, and White River Glacier area on Mt. Hood on Saturday. Although we had rain on several nights we were not bothered by rain while hiking, which allowed us to dry our gear before making camp each day.

The six hikers who made the entire trip were: Doris Allen, Bea Fontana (co-leader), Colin MacDonald, Glenn Meares, Wes Prouty (co-leader), and Merle Traudt. Andy and Marie-Anne Thompson stayed with us from Breitenbush Lake to Little Crater Lake. Emmy Dale, Bob Devine and Paula Vehrs hiked with us from Clackamas Lake to Timberline Lodge.
