Grizzly PeakJuly 22, 1979The leader and some hikers from Corvallis met 19 hikers from Eugene at the Pamelia Lake trailhead at 10 a.m. and proceeded at a leisurely pace into Pamelia Lake for a short stop and then on up the Grizzly Peak Trail. It was one of those clear-warm, delightful Oregon days. Pamelia Lake was very low, almost pond size, with many stumps showing above the water line. Pamelia Creek, however, was flowing full and a pleasure to hike along its banks. All were on top by 1:00 p.m. for lunch in the sun and a breathtaking view of Mt. Jefferson. No climbers were visible although the trail crossing the snowfield from the red saddle was very clear through binoculars. Everyone was back at the cars by 4:30 p.m. Hikers enjoying the day were: Mike BeBout, Judy Carmody, Maria Collins, Emmy Dale, Bob Foster, Sue Girardeau, Gladys Grancorvitz, Joe and Scott Lowry, Greg Marsh, Glenn Meares (leader), Clarence & Dorothy Scherer, and Richard, Barbara, Charlotte, Julie, and Brandt Scherer, Lois Schreiner, Velma Shirk, Lon and De von Southard, Sue Strawbridge and Merle Traudt. |
