Cone PeakJune 16, 1979Intermittent rain on the drive to Cone Peak trailhead let up so we had a relatively dry ascent. Flowers were nice, but not as far along as last year, and a light snow cover was on the ground and trees near the top. Clouds blew in and out, often obscuring Cone. Instead of a leisurely stay on top with a view of the snow peaks, we had a brief lunch stop and started down in a sleet storm and a strong wind. Brrr! It was still a great trip for eighteen hardy hikers who were Brian Ball, Lori Clark, Bill Eimstad, Wilbur Groner, Joella Hadland, Richard Heinzkill, Karen Houglum, Helen Hughes, Ruth & Wayne Lill, Helen Lynch, John & Lenore McManigal, Betty Metzler, Lois Schreiner, Ethel Steussy, Margaret Wiese and leader Catherine Jones. |
