Devil’s Garden

June 2, 1979

Away on time—Short stop at Green Waters Park—Into convoy at SP trestle—Six miles onto trailhead—11:00 a.m. seventeen counted in. Up the trail which had just been released from snow—Only very early flowers and not many of them. In at the upper end of Devil’s Garden and through snow, muck, willows and swamp to Janet Lake. The reported owner was not in residence.

Lunch on hillside overlooking the lake—Rock slabs for sunbathers—Shade for a few—90 degrees F.—Blue sky—2 small fleecy clouds and two feet of snow all around. Glissaders were Bob, Gladys, Joella and Tom. Returned directly to the trail—Out count was 18 (?)—Gentle return—Home at 5:30 p.m.

A bit of magic (railroad—Shady Creek—the Trail—Destination) was enjoyed by an amiable company composed of Mary Bridgeman, Emeline Dale, Bob Devine, Gladys Grancorvitz, Jane Hackett, Joella Hadland, Dorothy Hayes, Helen Hughes, Clarence Landes, Bonnie Ledford, Wayne & Ruth Lill, Elizabeth McMullin, Joyce Phillips, Ted Stern, Tom Stern, Paula Vehrs and leader Wilbur Groner.
