Hardesty to June via Sawtooth Trail

May 20, 1979

A bright, sunny Sunday morning and nine members set out promptly, first stop top end of Crale Creek Road. A mad little scramble up a sharp, steep bank saw us on the well-kept and always-a-joy-to-walk-on-Hardesty Trail. A brief stop-at the site of the former Lookout and on to far distant Mount June via the Sawtooth Trail, but too early for the many rhododendrons abounding the trail. Arriving at the old Mt. June Lookout, “overcrowded” by other parties, and leisurely lunch followed. The usual “what’s-that-mountain- ” discussion started; one of these days a member will be along to rattle off accurately, decisively and authoritatively each major (and some minor) peak on the horizon . . . Back along past Sawtooth Rock, and the whole party lay horizontal, gasping, on the cool grass at Hardesty Trail Junction. A vigorous day; great company; a great hike. Sawtoothers were Emmy Dale, Bob Devine, Wilbur Groner, Jane Hackett, Dot Leland, Betty Legris, Robin Steussy, Lin Trombley and leader John Cecil.
