Pre Breakfast Bike RideMay 6, 1979There appeared to be lots of interest for the trip with a sign up list that looked to be a foot long. Only Bob Devine and Ellen Jackson decided to brave the cold windy and rainy weather, explore the unknown and appeared on the scene. We made a 2½ hour tour following the bike trails along the Amazon and the north side of the river. We re-crossed the river over the new Knickerbocker Footbridge located near the freeway. This entailed a portage up on to and off of the bridge as there were no approaches, plus a short ride through some puddles and mud and finally a second portage across the railroad to Judkins Point. All of this backpacking of bicycles was a surprise for Bob and Ellen. The long grade up to the Lodge was quite easy, arriving there with a good appetite for an excellent breakfast.
