Hayrick Butte

April 14, 1979

We arrived at Hayrick under cool, cloudy skies. We had to slog thru knee-deep snow until we hit the wind pack about one-fourth the way up the slope. We practiced self arrest, team arrest, glissading, boot/ice ax belay and other snow climbing techniques until the weather moved in and it got very cold. Participants were Harry Austin, Willie Bronson, Dan Bates, Judy Carmody, Emmy Dale, Jane Hackett, Dot Leland, Kevin Sands, Wes Prouty & Randy Zustiak, leader.
