Tipsoo Butte

October 21, 1978

Nine hikers, spent a beautiful fall day on top of Tipsoo Butte in the Blue River Ranger District. Although the trail to Tipsoo needs attention (lots of overgrowth), the hikers were able to maneuver all branches, limbs and tree trunks and to follow the trail to the top. No one got lost! As usual, we napped, ate lunch and observed a beautiful view on top of the Butte. While hiking, we saw large lizards, grouse, and bear droppings—but fortunately, no bears! All hikers agreed that this hike to Tipsoo—5½ miles up—is an invigorating experience; and we hope that the trail will be improved in the future. The Tipsoo nine were Bonnie Ledford, Betty Legris, Joe Lowry, Wes Prouty, Robin Steussy, Merle Traudt, Paula Vehrs, Eleanor Wilkerson, & leader Liz Glover.
