Olallie Lookout

September 10, 1978

Seven of us left Eugene at 8:15 a.m. in the rain and cold. Warmed up with a bit of morning coffee at the New White Water Cafe in Blue River (very nice). Arrived at the trailhead at 11:00 a.m., and completed the 4½ miles into the newly decorated lookout on Olallie, courtesy of the Obsidians. Had lunch without a view because of fog which cleared only briefly for a picture of the group. Learned a good lesson for all in wet weather clothing and boots.

We were able to visit Wolverine Meadow & Lake on the other side of the trail than is shown on the maps—just follow the creek up 200 yards (the first one you cross going in).

Followed the new “paved” road around and down Horse Creek to McKenzie Bridge, and had another snack at the Rustic Skillet. More adventure than a hike for Kathy Blays, Liz and Ted Igl, Karen and Robert Murphy, & Rea and leader Robert Moffitt.
