Bike Trails, Eugene Area

May 14, 1978

This was the 4th year for this Mother’s Day Pre-Breakfast Bike Ride. Despite the very dark and rainy morning, a total of ten turned out to gamble with the elements and enjoy the lushness of the spring. We toured out the bike path along the Amazon, then over the river. This required a portage over the railroad. A switching train provided a touch of interest. We crossed the new Greenway Bridge and down the north side of the river almost to Springfield, then looping back along the new hike trail along the canoe canal to Autzen Bridge. It was nice to see the ducks and herons on the river and hear the small birds along the way. Our tour then followed an easy grade up to the lodge where we were fed a super excellent breakfast. Those on the trip were the BreMiller family—Cliff, Ruth, Aaron and Belinda, Stan & Joan Cook, Lee Hatch, Dick Moffitt, Parker Riddle and leader Marriner Orum.
