French Pete Creek

April 22, 1978

Eleven brave, rainy-day hikers set out at 8:00 a.m. from South Eugene High School parking lot for French Pete Creek Campground. We started on our eight-mile hike at 9:30 a.m. and arrived at the seventh bridge, our luncheon stop, at approximately 12:30. Due to the winter weather conditions the sixth and seventh bridges are no longer in operation, and hikers must hike on the north side of the creek. Unfortunately, this route is not as exciting as the bridge crossings. After lunch we hurried back to our cars, for we were slowly becoming eleven “drowning ducks.” In spite of the rain, the flowers were still blooming; the birds were still chirping; the creek was still rushing; and we had a great rainy day hike. Congratulations to the hikers who spurred their leader forward through the rain. Hikers were Angie Barta, Dan Bates, Norm Benton, Barb Combs, Gladys Grancorvitz, Al Gamache, Wilbur Groner, Joel McClure, Dan McLoughlin, Merle Traudt and leader Elizabeth Glover.
