Clark Butte TrailMarch 12, 1978A fine spring day—a little sun, a little rain, a few clouds and some snow pellets. Route was first Obsidian trek via the new Helen Smith cut-off, which was dedicated as well as possible observing the Obsidian prohibition of alcoholic beverages. Thence up the trail. Two inches of snow had been ordered for the ridge but only a dusting had been delivered. Still enough to brighten up the landscape. Lunch sitting atop a stump—Helen’s guess 500 years. Angie climbed a slope to take a picture and scared up two deer. Back down observing the flora, especially the pretty blue and yellow and white flowers. A stop in Lowell at the Japanese-American Inn for refreshment and home. Trekkers were Angela Barta, Karen Houglum, Helen Smith and leader Wilbur Groner. |
