Three Fingered JackJune 3-4, 1978We hiked in over snow most of the way. Beautiful, sunny, clear weather! Camped overnight at Summit Lake. There was just enough bare ground to pitch the tents off the snow. We were up at 5:15. Another clear day! The entire party was on top by 1:00 p.m. There were only four other people on the mountain; three of those turned back below the crawl. We belayed the other one up the chimney; a nice fellow from Colorado. He informed us that the mountains in Oregon are relatively free from people compared to Colorado. Back at the trailhead by 6:00 p.m. Climbers were Bob & Rea Moffitt, Wes Prouty, Pat Zustiak (first climb) and leader Randy Zustiak. |
