Broken Top Ski/Climb

February 4-5, 1978

This was the second annual ski-in-and-sit-in-the-storm Broken Top “climb.” Camped near Ditch Cabin site. Snowed with high winds during the night. In morning conditions were inhospitable for climbing, so slept in. Later skied up into crater and back down thru alternating snow and icy crust. Skied out via Todd Lake in afternoon after seeing no use in staying a second night. Rained last two miles. Will try it a third time next year. Skiers were Jerry Calbaum, Glenn Meares, Sam Miller, and leader Bert Ewing.
