Circle Lake/Santiam PassApril 3, 1977When we saw bare earth on the road to Round Lake (April Fool!), we scouted out an alternate trip. We skied along an old railway bed near the Pacific Crest Trail to Circle Lake and then further South toward Washington. Circle Lake made a good substitute for Round Lake in more ways than similarity of names: We found rolling hills, bright sun, open roads and trails and mountain views. We also found many snowmobile tracks and slow skiing on slushy snow. The eleven sun tanned sloggers were Dorothy Hayes, Richard Heinzkill, Dot Leland, Leona Mattson, Carol Petit, Henrietta Richmond, Parker Riddle, Ruth Romoser, Charlene Simpson, Virginia Wiles and leader Velma Shirk. |
