Hackleman Creek Ski TourMarch 5, 1977This ski trip was changed from Lava Lake to Hackleman Creek Road, not because of lack of snow in the area but because the road was plowed for two miles. Velma had scouted the trip the week before and we were all surprised to find a road grader at the trail head. Two miles west of Lava Lake Road is Hackleman Creek Road; we checked this out and skied south along this road toward Smith Prairie. We had excellent views of Mt. Jefferson, Three Fingered Jack and Mt. Washington. The day was warm and sunny—the snow soft, wet and deep. After skiing about three miles in we had lunch and returned back to the highway. Twenty-two happy spring skiers had a delightful day ending with a stop for refreshments on the way home. Skiers all were Mary Bridgeman, Connie and Cory Burden, Maude Cauldwell, Donn Chase, Laura Crosby, Emmy Dale, Melba Eckhoff, Evelyn and Lee Everett, Rachel Major, Glenn Mariarsky, Nan Randall, Tom Rhodes, Henrietta Richmond, Bev and Dave Rogers, Merle Traudt, Jan White, Leonard Wetzler and co-leaders Velma Shirk & Dot Leland. |
