Baby Rock, Salt Creek

December 10, 1977

Very nice overnight trip, leaving South Eugene at 6:30 Friday evening in two cars. Dinner at Harm’s Way in Oakridge, arriving at Chase cabin on Salt Creek about 8:30 p.m. Played Yahtzee and ate popcorn until 11:30, then turned in. Leader served continental breakfast, then short drive to trailhead. Beautiful winter day in full sunshine. Reached cliff in back of Baby Rock at 11:00 a.m. Wes climbed free hand to Belay Point, then the rest of the party followed on rope. Lunch on top. The party rappelled down the cliff, most using Wes’s harness; the leader, being old fashioned, didn’t, and burned his hands. Back along railroad track to cars. Coffee and tea break at cabin, then home. Hikers were Mary Bridgeman, Virginia Anderson, Henrietta Richmond, Peter Cecil, Dot Leland, Wes Prouty, Merle Traudt, Paula Vehrs and leader Donn Chase.
