Five hikers began their trek to Maiden Lake on a beautiful Saturday morn.
It was so very calm at Middle and North Rosary Lakes that we knew the stormy
weather was near.
From Skyline Trail to Maiden Lake we saw only mushrooms and animal tracks;
and as we hiked around every rocky cliff we looked for the lake.
Our discovery that Maiden Lake is six miles inland rather than 5½ miles
helped us to understand our sore feet.
Fortunately we had a terrific mycologist on our trip and she returned to
Eugene with several bags of mushrooms.
The Maiden Lake hike is an ideal one in the fall for mushroom enthusiasts.
