Carpenter Mountain

September 11, 1977

Left in two cars at 9:00 a.m., rendezvoused at Finn Rock, arrived at trail head by 11:00 a.m. Weather clear except for field burning smoke hanging between the western valleys, refusing to “go away.” The spring which is about 0.6 miles from trailhead still had water. According to Helen, lookout is in repairable shape (windows need shutters replaced). Lunch on top from 12 noon to 1:00 p.m. On return half of party (Helen, Pete, Tilly) decided to take the Blue River Trail and be picked up by Bert. Other half returned home to Eugene, arriving by 4:00 p.m. There were no huckleberries this year. Hikers were Pete Cecil, Bert Ewing, Barbara Holisky, Tilly Merritt, Helen Smith, Dorothy Turner, Carol and Helmut Plant, leader.
