Cascade HeadApril 23, 1977Our party of ten left at 8:15 a.m., crossed the Willamette on the Buena Vista ferry, and arrived at the trailhead at 10:55. The sky was partly cloudy, and the wind was light. It felt cool or warm depending on the shade and the wind. We passed through the delightful rain forest owned by the Nature Conservancy, which was carpeted with oxalis and candy flower. We spotted 13 other kinds of wildflowers and four snakes. We lunched out on the Head, enjoying the spectacular views. The ocean was exceptionally calm. The trail has become justly popular and we met about 25 other hikers, including an English couple in street clothes. We returned through Corvallis and Peoria, arriving home at 5:20 p.m. Enjoying the outing were Madeline Barwarth, Barb Combs, Gladys Grancorvitz, Margaret Lauderback, Tom Pringle, Charlene Simpson, Beverly Soule, Bob Walden, Greg Wannier, and leader Joel McClure. |
