McKenzie River Trail Part 1
April 16, 1977
An excellent early spring trip with plenty of flowers (16 kinds), a few birds including a water ouzel family at our lunch stop but no small animals. Most of the party were newcomers to the trail though Art Porter had been with us before and Sydney Herbert had walked part of it previously. Weather was nice, partly cloudy with several attempts at rain, none of which got anyone wet.
We found the trail to be in excellent condition with some trees down across it. This trail was well planned and maintenance seems to be adequate.
We took Mary Bridgeman up to trailhead and she started ahead of us on an overnight which was to take her the entire length of the trail.
Cutting markers for “partial” logging were found the whole way. We hope the logging will not destroy the trail.
The thirteen hikers were Sloan Bertsch, Ted Block, Karen Hall, Sydney Herbert, Ann Kaeo, Evelyn and Herbert McCornack, Elisabeth McMullin, Art Porter, Juan Sandoval, Jim Wood and co-leaders Ken and Robin Lodewick.
