Mt. ThielsenJuly 17, 1977After a pleasant campout at Diamond Lake, we started up the trail at 6:00. The clear, chilly morning was just right for that long easy hike to the scree slope. A large group from Sharp Creek Ranger Station was on the summit when we reached the pinnacle, so we had lots of time for exploring and a leisurely lunch out of the wind. The summit view was terrific and the first time climbers were much impressed. Descended via the scree slope route with the style and grace of an Old West cattle stampede. Arrived at Diamond Lake at 2:30 p.m. for a “soul saving” swim with the thousands of tadpoles. Completing the climb were Dave Dubois, Ed Lovegren, Tammy Thaxton and leader Gene Thaxton. |
