Three Fingered Jack

July 16, 1977

Members of the party drove to Ice Cap Campground (near Clear Lake) Friday evening and on to the Skyline Trail at the Santiam Summit Saturday morning. Started on the trail at 5:45; arrived on top about 12:30. Encountered about 50 other climbers on the mountain. Had beautiful weather until late afternoon when the wind kicked up. Brilliant red paint brush, hanging clumps of penstemon and other flowers were in profusion on the high part of the mountain.

Climbers were Mark Blain, Ric Craven, Lee & Wayne Hatch, Roger Hayes, Al Niems, Henrietta Richmond, Millard Thomas, Bill Williams and leader Frank Moore. Also on the trip but not summit climbers were Connie Thomas and Dorothy Hayes.
