Mt. ThielsenJune 19, 1977This climb was to be for youngsters and their parents. No one registered, so it became a family outing. Lisa (8 years old, 1st climb), Mike (10 years old, 2nd climb) and their parents, Pat and Steve John, set out from the Diamond Lake trailhead at 7:30 a.m. Progress was not fast, but was very steady. We used a belay at the top, and were all at the peak for lunch at 12:30. Beautiful day! Clear, sunny and warm, though a bit hazy, 72° on top. The trip down found some tired, but very proud kids (and parents, too!) We reached the car about 5:00 p.m. and headed for home. |
