Spencer Butte

December 26, 1976

For the second year in a row the day after Christmas Spencer Butte hike turned out quite extra special. On the way up we hiked right along side a beautiful rainbow. This was golden afternoon. We found the summit brisk and windy, overcast but no rain; rosy cheek weather. We stayed on top for about forty-five minutes enjoying coffee and snacks and a limited view of the valley. Then down we went via the southeast route, deer tracks on the trail. Twelve-year old Thatcher Trombley led us most of the way down and did a fine job of keeping track of everyone. Swinging on the rainbow were Clara Hall, Emil Harbeck, Helen Miller, Parker Riddle, Lois Schreiner, Merle Traudt, Karen, Lin and Thatcher Trombley, and Paula Vehrs.
