Tire Mtn. via the Alpine Trail

October 9, 1976

We drove up the South Winberry Creek road to the head of the Winberry drainage and over Windy Pass. We hiked along the ridge on the Alpine trail a mile then turned off on the Tire Mountain trail for three miles. This is an interesting way to approach the mountain as there are a number of open meadows with good views out and rocky outcroppings overhead. The party was fortunate enough to see a small band of elk and several grouse. We drove home by way of the North Fork of the Willamette through Westfir and the Willamette highway. The weather was warm, clear, and dry. Charlene Simpson, Helen Smith, leader, Merle Traudt, Ted Stern, Lin Trombley, Karen Trombley, Thatcher Trombley, and Andy Thompson.
