Found Lake

September 19, 1976

Nine Obsidians and three guests left Eugene at 8 a.m. and arrived at the trailhead above Carleton Lake at 10 a.m. A walk around the beautiful lake and over a number of forested ridges and we arrived at the rocks high above Found Lake and looking across at Gerdine Butte. After lunch we went down to the lake for exploring or rest in the sun. We found a sign “Lost Lake” although all the maps show the lake named “Found Lake”. On the way back to the cars we made a half mile side hike to see Round Meadow, a lovely large area of tall grass that was obviously the home of a large herd of elk. The thunder clouds that had made the sky so beautiful all day did not deluge us until we were in our cars on the way home!

The nine hikers were: Donna Baker, Mary Bridgeman, Joella Hadland, Dorothy Hayes, Clarence Scherer (leader), Dorothy Scherer (co-leader), Lois Schreiner, Helen Smith, Harcelline Smyth, Merle Traudt, Paula Vehrs, Bob Walden.
