Potato Hill on Skis and SnowshoesMarch 15, 1975Five skiers and three snowshoers started out on Jack Pine road 1371 just .9 of a mile east of the Santiam “Y”. It was snowing lightly as we started up the gently rising, two mile road to the top of Potato Hill. Even though it was partly cloudy we did get to see some of the surrounding mountains along the way. All but two of us made it to the top, where we had a short lunch break. The clouds moved in and it started to snow again so we headed downhill—a nice run for skiers and snowshoers all the way to the cars by l:30 p.m. A pleasant, enthusiastic group and a short invigorating trip made for a good winter outing. After stopping at a cafe for refreshments we arrived in Eugene by 4:00 p.m. The travelers were: Delores Haddad, John Hribernick, Marg McElhose, Marie Williams, Mary Bridgeman, Chuck Haddad, Ted Stern, and Dorothy Leland, leader. |
