Black CraterAugust 23, 1975A very wet and windy trip. Five hikers headed up the McKenzie Highway to the Dee Wright Observatory and then 2½ miles beyond to the trailhead. Rain gear was the order of the day—we hiked to the tree line, but within hour’s hike to the summit, had to return because of unusually high winds and fog. With the exception of the leader, none of the hikers had been there before and expressed the desire to return for another attempt on a GOOD DAY!! |
