August 9-10, 1975
We left Eugene on a clear sunshiny morning and headed up the Willamette Pass Highway. Arrived at the Windy Lakes trailhead at approx 10 a.m. and started hiking at 10:15. The trail was a fairly steep one most of the way in to the lakes. This trail wound through some very pretty forested scenery all the way.
Everyone on the trip was happy and having a good time. Parker’s boys were the real hikers on the trip. Have never seen anyone move so fast as those kids did.
Everyone arrived at the first of the Windy Lakes at approx. noon. We then decided to go onto the next lake, which is the largest of the group, and has a beautiful setting for a camp on a peninsula which juts out into the lake. Made our camp here and everyone took to the lake for swimming. Another good reason to be in the water other than the relaxation, was to get away from the swarms of mosquitoes, which had been eating on all of us all the way into the lake.
We had a real nice camp here, and everyone seemed to have a very good time. We left camp approx. 9:45 a.m. Sunday morning and headed down the trail at a very fast pace to try to outrun the swarms of mosquitoes. Arrived back at car 11:15 and home again at 1:15 p.m.
On trip were Christine, Mark and Theresa Gamache, Parker Allen, Arran, Kevin and Parker Riddle with leader Al Gamache.
