Hanks LakeJuly 18-20, 1975This trip was scheduled as Shale Lake, but because of weather and snow conditions was to Hanks Lake in the Hunts Cove area. This trip was planned as a two or three day outing with a leader for each. So on Friday morning Lee Hatch, sons Wayne and Brian and Chuck Haddad started up the Pamelia Lake Trail at 9:30. At 1:30 we were at Hanks Lake with some snow on trail and very poor, foggy weather. We made camp there and started a large fire to keep dry. We were the only campers in the area. Next morning was sunny and warm as the co-leader went back to Pamelia Lake to meet the second group led by Paker Riddle. We got back to Hanks Lake at 2:30 and set up camp, ate and the kids swam, fished (no luck) and paddled on the lake in a small rubber raft one had packed in. Sunday was sunny and hot as we started on a side trip to some falls on the nearby hillside. After viewing the falls and Mt. Jefferson, the group except for Don, Lee, Wayne and Ronnie, went back to camp. They took a five hour trip to climb Goat Peak. Packed out to cars at 5 p.m. On trip: Wayne and Brian Hatch, Chuck Haddad, Joyce and Ilene Wolpert, David Hatch, Don and Barbara Payne, Dorothy and Ronnie Leland, Dorothy Hayes, and leaders Parker Riddle and Lee Hatch. |
