Oregon Coast TrailMay 24-26, 1975We left Eugene at 7 a.m. and after shuttling the cars started down the beach at 12:30 after about two miles on the sand we crossed the highway and started up Neahkahnie Mountain. By the time we got over and back to the beach it was time to make camp at Short Sand Beach. This was an unimproved camp ground and required about two mile walk from the parking lot. It did provide water and rest rooms. Sunday morning after a mile or so on the beach we were on a trail in the woods of Oswald West State Park. This trail was high above the ocean and at times provided excellent views of the rocks and beach below. Back on the beach again we camped on the beach, which we later found out is not allowed. The third day we had only about six mile to go, so had plenty of time for playing and exploring around Haystack Rock near Cannon Beach. Weather was nearly perfect even the light rain Sunday night. All daylight hours were warm and sunny. On the 26 mile hike were: Chuck Haddad, Lee and David and Wayne and Brian Hatch. Lee was the leader. |
