Thurston, Walterville, Camp Creek Loop Bike Trip
April 27, 1975
We met at Alton Baker Park at 8:00 a.m. waited awhile for one person who didn’t show, and then took off on the bike path towards Springfield. The Porters, who are from Elmira, had never been on the bike paths before, and were quite impressed with the beauty of the path along the river. Took several jogs on Jasper Road, 57th Street, and Thurston Road to avoid the McKenzie Highway as much as possible. We stopped for a rest at Hendricks Bridge Park, then cut off to Camp Creek Road to return.
A short stop at Bellinger’s Landing to watch all the fishermen on this second day of the fishing season. Then off to my house where we relaxed and ate lunch. Continued on Hayden Bridge Road to 5th Street where we returned to the bike path and back to Alton Baker.
After worrying us with threatening clouds early that morning, the weather smiled on us and we had sunshine most of the trip and beautiful views of spring wildflowers and blossoming trees.
Cyclists on the trip were: Steven McManigal, George and Velma Porter, and Rose Marie Moffitt (leader).
