Hardesty MountainApril 12, 1975Left at 9:00 a.m., headed SE on Highway 58 about 22 miles to intersection with Crale Creek Road (FSR 2064) which is just east of Goodman Creek Road. Up this road about 3.9 miles to large clearcut unit and trailhead marked with 12" white X on green metal sign. Left cars about 10:00 a.m. Encountered snowline at 3,000 foot level, wound up wading through sometimes hip-deep snow the remaining two miles or so to the top of 4,273 foot high Hardesty Mountain. Arrived on top at 1 p.m., left again at 2 p.m., made it back to the cars by 4 p.m., home by 5 p.m. This hike is a compromise between the long haul up from Highway 58 and the shorty trail from FSR 2046H (less than a mile). Those on the trip were: Al, Theresa, Christine, and Mark Gamache, Lee Hatch, Teresa Nutt, Merle Traudt, Paula Vehrs, and Helmut Plant (leader). |
