Weyerhauser Road—Jasper Area

December 17, 1974

A foggy, rainy morning found our small group of bicyclists getting ready at Courtright’s (Springfield) parking lot. By meeting here we cut off about 17 miles of uninteresting biking and bothersome traffic. From 57th and Main we peddled south turning left onto the Weyerhauser Road. While we were observing a small cemetery it began to rain larger drops. We biked on to the Fall Creek Road, then south to Jasper and across the Middle Fork of the Willamette River to Jasper County Park. We were the only persons in the park to enjoy the area in its wetness while we ate our lunch. We biked back along the Wallace Creek road to the Weyerhauser Road and back to Courtrights; about a fifteen mile round trip. We didn’t observe much animal wildlife, but we did manage to savor some lingering blackberries. Those having a wet, but enjoyable bicycle trip were Ben Peterson, Wes Prouty, and Clara Emlen, leader.
